Difficulty in pricing OC3

DS3 and OC3 installs typically require fiber and most buildings do not have them. This requires a build out cost.

A large percentage of DS3 orders fail owing to special construction issues.

Installs for these services run from 2,000 to over 25,000 plus monthly for OC3. These are approximate costs which may differ from place to place.

Cost for Voice T1

T1 Lines can be bundled with T1 Voice depending on your needs.

Prices for this Service will depend on number of phone lines you need, whether you will include PRI in your bundle and your required data bandwidth. The more voice lines you require the more pricing and cost will go up.

For example if you chose a basic plan with four voice lines and 256kb of dedicated bandwidth with Integrated Local t1 LD Data for a 2 Years term it would run you about $518.25 per month. Other charges that may be included are $3.00 per toll-free number, Long distance rates would cost 5¢/min (Inter-State) – 7¢/min (In-State) – 2¢/min for Local Calls.

The price quoted does not include long distance t1 usage or applicable FCC taxes.

Many T1 Providers will sometimes wave install, depending on contract length and other factors.

What is MPLS?

It is in some ways similar to an internet based VPN (Virtual Private Network) in the setup… but very different as well.

MPLS in its root is a signal formatting that allows traffic to be tagged and prioritized. Ultimately, carriers either run MPLS over their IP network cloud or some maintain a separate network clous for MPLS only. Either way, you connect into the cloud via whatever you need. Could be a T1 or bonded T1s for one location, full or fractional DS3 for others, etc.

Each location comes into the cloud and is notated where it wants to go to. Unlike a point to point T1 setup… you can get any site to any site communication. Similar to internet, you pay for loop and bandwidth amount, so you can take say 10 meg on a DS3.

If you order or receive COS, Class of Service, on the circuit, you can then prioritize traffic. So, for example, all voice over IP would take precedence through the network and override other bandwidth. Video may be second. Network traffic third. General internet usage 4th, etc. You can also dedicate burstable bandwidth amounts from each location for this.

MPLS stands for Multiprotocol Label Switching.
