Sprint has introduced next generation 4G network for smart phones. The initial roll out has begun in Baltimore and will be deployed in further markets towards the end of the year.
With mobile broadband Internet speeds of up to 3-5 times faster than existing 3g networks, sprint is the first nationwide carrier to introduce this technology. Further markets which will be targeted include Atlanta, Charlotte, Las Vegas, Portland, Seattle and several others which can be seen in the press release here.
Sprint Networks 4g network which other carriers are sure to follow, will be powerful enough to provide streaming hd-television quality service. Currently only available in the Baltimore area, prices start at $79.99 for 3g/4g connection plans.
List of providers who plan to offer this service and date of expected 4g roll-out:
Verizon – Planned launch in 2010; 25-30 us markets.
AT&T – Expected launch in 2011.
T-mobile- 2009 Launch; 4g wimax network.
